Here is the October 9 patch star block
Loved doing this one and was easy to fill in. My only issue was to do the swirl in the light purple triangles. It's a biggish space to fill freehand and I think I got one of my swirls the wrong way around. Natalia uses this swirl quite often to fill a space...I have to really think hard about that one...does not come naturally to me and promptly turned it in the right top corner. It's not really that obvious, so I just left it in there.
This quilt of many colors, needs threads to match!
The plan was to use the thread colors as elements of the colors shift within the rows.
This did mean MANY thread changes on the longarm, which I really didn’t mind.
I used my longarm rulers to stitch straight lines and circles. I went over each line 3 times to build up the thread. I also used a really small stitch length on the longarm (16 stitches per inch instead of 11) With the straight lines this is doable, but as I later discovered, the circular lines gave me trouble ...

This wall hanging will be on display hopefully soon on a wall near my kitchen. I am happy with how it turned out, even though all the stitching seemed to take for ever. read more
This time I am innocent...I won a $50 gift voucher at the Great International Craft Show that was run here online from 16-19/9, so I had to spent it...
I am a bit out of practice with my stitch-in-the-ditch quilting, however decided for the last charity quilt to just quilt it in the ditch.
This panel has been most interesting. I decided to again use my Handiquilter Multi Clamshell tool, however expanded on the clamshell design and made a 'cloud' pattern.
The Quilt Police are going to have a problem with this video … I show you how I stitch-in-the-ditch with my seams pressed open. GASP!
I think once upon a time when quilting fabric, thread, sewing machines and batting weren’t as good as they were today, this may have cause some issues. So we had this piece of knowledge passed down that you can’t press your seams open and if you do, sitching-in-the-ditch is out for quilting options.
But as long as you are using quilt shop quality cotton, high quality thread, batting, and a modern sewing machine, not ...

Have a few new quilts to quilt from the Orange Tree Quilters group. The first one I tackled is a scrappy quilt made out of Patience Corner blocks.
The latest quilt is now finished! I had such a good time quilting this one, especially since I wasn’t constantly fighting the weight as I moved it around under my Bernina, thanks to my new suspension system. The background fabric is a white-on-white fabric with happily flitting dragonflies, which is where I got the name […]

The fat quarter-friendly is packed with half square triangles, and I wanted to accentuate that with the quilting. So I outlined every single triangle with stitch-in-the-ditch and then stitched a triangle through the center of each HST half.
I love the way it turned out. The texture of the quilting mimics the design of the quilt and it’s fabulous. You can watch as I quilt seeing how I move the ruler around to create this texture with minimal thread breaks ...

I’d previously made another of the designs from this site, and the technique is interesting; different strips are combined in varying combinations and then cut into blocks of various sizes and shapes. In today’s Quilting the Quilt video I show you how I quilted Sparkle, one of our Stashin’ with Stephanie patterns from a few months ago. I used a combination of rulerwork to outline the diamonds, a topographic free motion quilting design within each diamond and swirls in the background.
I love how the rulerwork defines each diamond and the topographic stitch within each block make it look like the blocks are radiating out from the center.
We cover how to do each technique in detail with some play-by-play descriptions so you can give it a try on your own ...

In today’s video I walk you through the quilting I did on Ladies Chain, our latest Stashin’ with Stephanie pattern.
The pattern was so simple, that I wanted to elevate the quilt with a little bit fancier quilting. So I used rulerwork to create a series of diamonds in the print squares and straight lines in the white background.
I talk you through why I made my quilting decisions, my thread choices (and regrets) and then give you a play-by-play of exactly what I am doing as I am doing it in real time so you can give the ...
